The Highway Bureau provides City and visitors with services, which will maintain safe traffic flow, directional signs/street markings and clean thoroughfares.  The Bureau meets the special requirements of highway maintenance.  The Highway Bureau is responsible for the maintenance of 89.9 miles of streets, 40 miles of alleys, and 31 miles of storm water lines consisting of 1,735 inlets and 445 manholes; state inspection and maintenance of 221 City vehicles and removal of graffiti from public and private property.

STREET SWEEPING 

The City of York announces that Friday, November 13, 2009 is the last day when street sweeping will be conducted citywide and towing will also be discontinued, effective immediately. However, street sweeping and ticketing will continue on streets that are designated for year round street cleaning (see street lisitng below). 

All residents are reminded to follow posted parking restrictions. The City’s Ticket and Tow Initiative also continues this year. Vehicles will be ticketed on posted streets as indicated:  “TOW AWAY ZONE” and “NO PARKING, THIS SIDE,” during specific days and times. 

City wide street sweeping will resume mid-March 2010.

The fine for no parking is $25. For questions about when a street is posted for no parking please call the Highway Bureau at 849-2320.

FIRST Friday Morning - 7:15 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.
Princess Street (Belvidere Avenue to Penn Street) South Side
Queen Street (King Street to Boundary Avenue) West Side

HOW TO REPORT A POT HOLE

Call the hot line @ 717-849-2228 for any street problems-pot holes, inlets clogged, signs, snow removal or sweeping.  Please give exact location (street name, block).  This is a 24-hour service that is a recording and is checked daily for messages, OR if you wish to speak with someone call 717-849-2320 between 7:00 a.m. & 3:30 p.m., Monday thru Friday.

RESIDENTIAL PARKING FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES AND DISABLED VETERANS

It is very important that this application be filled out completely and legibly. An application that is incomplete, illegible or otherwise not filled out in compliance with the explicit instructions given on the application will be returned to the applicant without action.

All applicants must have their physician certify the nature of the disability.
Return the application fee of $50.00 with the completed application. The application fee of $50.00 is non-refundable. Please submit the application fee in the form of check or money order by mail. Walk-in payments may be made in the form of cash, check, money order, and credit card. All checks and money orders should be made out to the City of York, PA.

Please submit your application fee, completed application, and physician’s statement to City of York, (Attention) Residential Parking for People with Disabilities, PO Box 509, York, PA 17405-0509.

Additionally, applicants must include a photocopy of the following:

  1. Vehicle Registration

  2. Applicant’s or Designated Driver’s PA Drivers License

  3. Person with Disabilities or Disabled Veterans Identification Card
