Welcome to the Department of Public Works website. Public Works and our ninety-four full time employees strive to provide the best service we can each day with the resources we have available.

Fall means crisp cool days, the start of the school year, Penn State Football, and soon leaf clean up throughout the city. A service offered by the City of York to residents is curbside leaf collection. Leaves should be raked out into the street approximately six inches from the curb line and should be free of litter and debris. Leaf collection will continue throughout the fall until all leaves have been collected.

Please take advantage of our remaining special events including Light Up Night on December 4 and our annual New Year’s Eve Celebration. New this year for the New Year’s Eve event is a Kid’s Countdown on the square that will kick off the event. All events offer something for all ages to enjoy, so please come out and support the City and enjoy an evening in downtown York. The events cannot continue without the support of the public. More information is available by clicking on Special Events on our web page.

Year one of the Rebuild York street projects was a success and has been completed. Year two includes major work with all of Philadelphia Street, Sherman Street and major portions of King Street, College Avenue, Belvidere Avenue and Pine Street scheduled for work.

Thank you for taking the time to visit our web page. Please feel free to contact me at jgross@yorkcity.org if you have a specific question or need of the Department of Public Works.
