George Street\, 10:45-11:00 a.m. \nCommunity organizations\, businesses\, youth groups\, and families are all welcome to be a part of this great initiative designed to keep our community vibrant and beautiful. \nMayor Bracey encourages everyone to do their part in helping to keep the city of York looking its best. \nThis is a “Litter Only” Cleanup ~ NO LARGE ITEMS. \nCurbside customers should call 843-1240 to get a scheduled date for collection of household furniture and appliance items. Collections are scheduled 7 – 10 days in advance.

DESCRIPTION:My Brother’s Keeper Community Cookout\n  \nDue to the forecasted weather for Saturday\, August 12th the My Brother’s Keeper Community event will be held at Voni Grimes Gym\, 125 East College Ave.\, in partnership with the Community Mural Painting project\, from 12:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.  Snacks and drinks will be provided. \nThe event will provide the opportunity for our youth and community to enjoy entertainment\, activities\, and mentorship opportunities for those youth in our community that are seeking positive male role models. \nThe event is free and open to the public. \nMy Brother’s Keeper York\, PA\, in alignment with President Obama’s My Brother’s Keeper Community Challenge\, seeks to eliminate opportunity gaps\, barriers\, and challenges facing youth in our community\, including boys and young men of color\, to ensure that all young people in our community are positioned for success. \nMy Brother’s Keeper York\, PA has decided upon focusing their first two years of the initiative on the Goals 2 & 6 of the initiative\, which are to assist in ensuring that all children read at grade level by third grade and assist in ensuring that all youth remain safe from violent crime. \n“Encouraging the interconnectedness and mentorship between our youth and our males in the community\, is an important aspect in encouraging growth and achievement in the lives of our young people\,” states Mayor Bracey.

DESCRIPTION:The 34th National Night Out will take place on Tuesday August 1\, 2017\, throughout several neighborhoods in the City of York.  National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods a safer\, better place to live. Together\, we are making that happen.  National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement community and provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances. \nLast year 30 different parties were hosted throughout the city.  Some of the larger parties were hosted by area churches and area agencies\, while many were smaller neighborhood or block party events.

There is a limit of 2 bulbs per household.  The free CFL bulbs are 13-watt and 26-watt\, which are comparable to regular 40-watt and 75-watt incandescent bulbs respectively.

SUMMARY:42nd Annual Olde York Street Fair
DESCRIPTION:The Olde York Street Fair is a Mother’s Day tradition in downtown York. The event takes place in and around Continental Square. This free event features more than 100 vendors of handmade arts and crafts\, a Kid’s Fun Block with bounce houses\, games\, face painting\, coloring pages\, and other entertainment. \nFood vendors will sell traditional American festival food as well as original creations. Fifty percent of all food vendor proceeds will go to support local non-profit organizations. Ticket sales in the Kid’s Fun Block will support York City Special Events. \nThe Olde York Street Fair will begin with remarks from Mayor Bracey and the singing of the National Anthem by a William Penn High School student. \nSeveral stage areas near Continental Square will feature live entertainment in a variety of genres. Check back in the spring for a list of 2017 performers. \nThe American Red Cross will hold a blood drive from 11:30am-4pm in front of the York County Historical Society Museum\, 250 East Market Street. To schedule an appointment\, please call 1-800-RedCross or visit www.redcross.org. Walk-ins are welcome\, but appointments will take precedence. Visitors attempting to donate blood will receive a $10 gift certificate to Central Family Restaurant (while supplies last). \nView Event Page \n
