Road Closure Application for Construction

The City of York, PA allows citizens to temporarily close entire or portions of city streets or sidewalks for construction purposes. A Road Closure Application for construction can be submitted using the form below. Permits are issued by The City of York Department of Public Works.

Road closure permits are valid ONLY from the project start date through to the project end date.

CONSTRUCTION Road Closure Application Instructions

  • Multiple closures for different locations/dates cannot be submitted on one form. A separate from must be completed for each closure.
  • It is the responsibility of the applicant to notify County Control of road closure and road re-opening.
  • It is the responsibility of the applicant to contact Permits Planning & Zoning (717.849.2256) for additional permits that may be required (i.e. sidewalk closure).
  • It is the responsibility of the applicant to provide barricades, flaggers, signage, etc. as necessary for the road closure.
  • If no parking signs are needed, purchase MUST BE made in person at York City Hall, Finance Office, 101 S. George St., 9 am to 4 pm, Monday through Friday.  Cost:   $1.00/Sign (Check Payable To: The City of York) No Parking Sign questions, contact Mary Shoff, mshoff@yorkcity.org or 717-849-2230.  Signs must be posted twenty-four (24) hours prior to the road closure date.

Note: You will be notified if additional information is required (i.e. signage, flagging plan, map, etc.)

Closure Information

  • One Day Road Closure Information

    Applications must be submitted for review and approval to the City of York a minimum of five (5) business days prior to the project start date. Please allow 24 hours for a response.

      • Upon review and approval of the application, the approved permit will be sent to the e-mail provided.
      • The permit is valid ONLY from the project start date through to the project end date.

  • Multiple Day Road Closure Information

    Applications must be submitted for review and approval to the City of York a minimum of ten (10) business days prior to the project start date. Please allow 48 hours for a response.

    • Upon review and approval of the application, the approved permit will be sent to the e-mail provided.
    • The permit is valid ONLY from the project start date through to the project end date.

  • Fees & Payment Information
    • Basic Permit Fee: $25
    • Check Payable to the City of York, PA

    PAYMENT INSTRUCTIONS

    • An invoice is included with the APPROVED permit along with further instructions for payment.
    • Please be sure to include the remittance with the payment.

    HOW DO I PAY FOR MY PERMIT?

    Mail – A check made payable to the City of York can be mailed to The Department of Public Works, 101 South George Street, York, PA, 17401, Attention:  PUBLIC WORKS (ROAD CLOSURE)

    • Please be mindful of the due date on the invoice.

  • No Parking Signs

    No Parking Signs Must Be Purchased in Person
