580 Company St. Structure Fire with Two Civilian Fatalities

On Friday July 14, 2023, at 4:08 am, the City of York Department of Fire/Rescue Services was dispatched to 580 Company St. for a structure fire. Upon arrival there was heavy fire showing from the second-floor rear extending to the third floor. Crews were advised of multiple civilians trapped from bystanders. In spite of an aggressive interior attack and search, a male and two children were located by fire crews and extricated from the building. All three victims were in cardiac arrest and life saving measures were immediately started. Unfortunately, two of the victims were declared deceased at York Hospital. One firefighter was treated at York Hospital for burns and released.

The fire was contained to 580 Company St. and went to 2 alarms. The fire loss is over $100,000. The Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents.

The fire investigation is being conducted by several agencies, the City of York Department of Fire/Rescue Services, York City Police Department, and the Pennsylvania State Police. The cause of the fire is ongoing and still under investigation.
