Modified Operations Announced for City of York

On November 30, 2020 Mayor Michael Helfrich and the City of York announced indefinite modified operations for City of York departments. These precautions are being implemented due to the current and anticipated surge in COVID-19 cases throughout the region. These modifications include work at home orders for employees that are able to perform their duties remotely. Desk landline phones will be rerouted to assigned city cell phones and additional IT needs will be filled when needed.

The York City Treasurer’s Office remains open at City Hall from 9:00am until 4:00pmMonday through Friday for those who must talk to someone in person regarding payments collected by the Treasurer’s Office.  Customers MUST wear masks and practice social distancing. This office processes parking tickets, amnesty payments, City and School property taxes, Business Improvement District Assessments and all other revenue for the City of York.  If possible, please continue to place your payments in the dropbox located at the rear entrance of City Hall or drop them in the mail.  Parking tickets may be paid online at www.yorkcity.org.

York City Police Department and York City Department of Fire/Rescue Servicesremain fully operational with appropriate PPE to serve the residents of York. Administrative employees are working from home when appropriate.

City of York Bureau of Health and Weyer Health Center remain fully operational with modified practices to support the public health needs of our city residents including managing our response to the COVID-19 pandemic. If you have questions about services call 717-849-2299 or 717-893-0070.

Property Maintenance Inspectors continue to perform critical public safety functions such as conducting tenant occupied inspections and responding to requests submitted via city residents. Inspectors have been provided N95 masks, face shields, and other appropriate PPE for interior inspections. Masks are to be worn by the property owner or property owner representative while inspectors are on site and social distancing must be maintained. Permits, Planning and Zoning administrative employees are working from home when appropriate.

Public Works Departments including building maintenenance, electrical, highway, sanitation, and parks bureaus remain operational with appropriate PPE for indoor and outdoor work environments. Administrative employees are working from home when appropriate. City recreation programs are currently suspended.

Large Item Pick-Up is operational. To schedule large item collection, please call “LIVE” Monday through Thursday 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at this temporary cell number 717-600-7055.  Because calls are handled one at a time, customers may get a voice message even during these hours.  This simply means that our staff is on another call.  Please dial back in a couple minutes.

To report a “missed” collection related to trash, household items that are already scheduled, recycling, or yard waste, York City customers may call the temporary number during the listed hours (OR) email khill@yorkcity.org or cdennis@yorkcity.org to report the missed collection.  Please include your name, phone number, address and pick up point, along with what was missed and when it was missed.

Parking Enforcement Officers continue to patrol with appropriate PPE and parking garages remain staffed and operational. Administrative employees are working from home when appropriate. Requests for parking permits and “No Parking” signs should be submitted to parking@yorkcity.org.  Appointments will be made to obtain these items once the request is reviewed.
