York City Department of Fire/Rescue Attains ISO Class 2 Rating

ISO (Insurance Services Office) is an independent company that serves insurance companies, communities, fire departments, insurance regulators, and others by providing information about risk. ISO’s expert staff collects information about municipal fire suppression efforts in communities throughout the United States. In each of those communities, ISO analyzes the relevant data and assigns a PPC grade – a number from 1 to 10. Class 1 represents an exemplary fire suppression program, and Class 10 indicates that the area’s fire suppression program does not meet ISO’s minimum criteria.

Over the past several years we have been trying to modernize the department with more training, professional development, newer equipment, and staffing. These changes have made a significant impact on the quality of service we provide to the City of York and North York Borough.

Earlier this year we began the inspection process by the ISO representatives and with the changes the department has made, Monday, October 31st the department was notified that our current status of ISO Class 3 improved to a rating of ISO Class 2.
