Penn Street & Roosevelt Avenue Intersection Safety Enhancements
SAFETY AND TRAFFIC IMPROVEMENTS CONTINUE AT THE INTERSECTION OF PENN ST., ROOSEVELT AVE., AND W. PHILADELPHIA ST.
(17 October 2024) York, PA – Safety enhancements and traffic pattern improvements are in process for the intersection of Penn St., Roosevelt Ave., and W. Philadelphia St. In the short term, the City has had to close the right lane on Penn St. northbound at the intersection.
Because of the closure of this right lane, all northbound traffic on Penn St must use the left lane on Penn St., turning a slight left onto Roosevelt Ave. or a sharper left onto W Philadelphia St. The City’s Traffic Safety Committee concluded this will help clear up confusion about which lane to be in as signage and markers and signal light patterns are being changed.
When the improvements are finished, the right lane on Penn St. northbound will be limited to those going straight. The left lane will be for both lefthand turns onto Roosevelt or Philadelphia. This is a safety improvement. The left lane will also have its own greenlight cycle. This improves the flow of traffic.
The City of York appreciates your patience as the work continues. The final product will be a great improvement for the public’s safety and convenience.
