304 W. North St. Structure Fire with Two Civilian Fatalities

On Tuesday June 20, 2023, at 0513 hours, the City of York Department of Fire/Rescue Services was dispatched to 304 W. North St. for a structure fire. Upon arrival there was heavy fire showing from the first and second floors of 304 extending into 302 W. North St. Crews were advised of multiple civilians trapped in 304 from bystanders. A male was rescued from the third floor by York City police and York City firefighters. In spite of an aggressive interior attack and search, a male and female resident were found deceased on the first floor in the home by fire department personnel. One firefighter was treated at York Hospital for smoke inhalation and released.

The fire had ultimately extended to 302 W. North St. and went to 2 alarms. The fire loss is over $200,000 for both affected properties. The Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents.

The fire investigation is being conducted by several agencies, the City of York Department of Fire/Rescue Services, York City Police Department, and the Pennsylvania State Police. The cause of the fire is ongoing and still under investigation.
