A Memorial to Honor Two Fallen Firefighters to Be Installed This Spring in York

York XL and the City of York Department of Fire/Rescue Services invite you to sponsor a brick to bring to life the Ivan & Zach Memorial Gardens, which will honor the ultimate sacrifice that York City firefighters Ivan Flanscha and Zachary Anthony made almost three years ago in service to York City. You can sponsor a brick by visiting York XL’s website at yorkxl.com

Corporate sponsorship opportunities are also available.

Also, York XL will host a 2-hour celebration and remembrance program on March 22, from 6 to 8 P.M. The program will include reflections by family, friends, and colleagues, spoken word poetry, and music. Details will be added to the York XL website.

“Ivan loved being a firefighter, he was devoted to the community, and he took great joy in his family and many friends,” says Ivan’s mom, Judy Luckow.

The three-garden memorial, which will also honor the service firefighters provide to the City of York, will take shape as redesigned gardens on the Broad Street Greenway (by E. Philadelphia Street) in the City of York – Northeast Neighborhood. The memorial gardens have been designed by Dannie Wright, Garden Designer for Hilltop Garden Design and a horticulturist at Longwood Gardens.

“We are so blessed that you are honoring Zachary with a memorial garden,” says Zach’s mother, Karen Anthony. “We are pleased that he will be remembered forever in the city of York. Zachary would be humbled because he was ‘just’ doing his job, he was ‘just’ helping a friend, he was ‘just’ helping someone in need; because that is ‘just’ the love that Zachary had for everyone.”

The sponsored bricks will be used in the gardens, as well as replace an existing patio next to the greenway.
