The City of York will be holding an appreciation event for the funders of the recent relandscaping of Cherry Lane. The event will take place at noon on Tuesday, October 24 in Cherry Lane.
The Pennsylvania American Water Company contributed $2,500 towards the relandscaping; Royal Square Development Corporation contributed $1,500. These contributions allowed the relandscaping of all garden spaces within Cherry Lane. The funding also allowed the City to address the rootbound deterioration of some of the vegetation. Some planters in Cherry Lane now contain ornamental grass. The gardens will host a variety of seasonal plantings. The effect will brighten the aesthetics of Cherry Lane as well as make the park more open and airy. The seasonal plantings will refresh and beautify the park.
The bricked, outdoor Cherry Lane is central to downtown York’s liveliness. Cherry Lane is a spot to eat a meal from Central Market with coworkers, or simply by yourself. The park is a venue for free “Box Lunch Review” concerts during warmer months. Family movie nights took place this summer. The relandscaping will ensure Cherry Lane continues to be an enjoyable gathering place for the City’s residents, workers, and shoppers.
