The York City Police Department will swear in 5 new police officers on Monday, December 1 at 1:00 pm in Council Chambers at City Hall, 101 S. George St. The new officers will be joined with friends and family. Brief biographies follow.
Landen Eckert is pursuing a career as a police officer for the City of York because he wants to give back to the community that shaped him. He was born and raised in York and attended Delone Catholic High School, followed by attendance at McDaniel and Albright College.
Jacob Hillner is grateful to join a police department dedicated to serving its populace, and he is ready to make a difference with this opportunity. He was born in Woodland Hills, California and moved to Colorado, then Pennsylvania. Jacob earned a Criminal Justice degree from Arapahoe Community College after high school. He serves in the Pennsylvania National Guard as an Infantryman in the 2-104th Cavalry Regiment.
Shaqeeb Hussain is committed to continuing a law enforcement career where he can make a positive impact, build trust, and serve with honor and professionalism. He was born in Brooklyn, New York and raised in Columbia, Maryland. Shaqeeb graduated from Oakland Mills High School before earning an associate’s degree in criminal justice from Howard Community College. Shaqeeb was a Baltimore City police officer and, more recently, worked in the cyber security field.
Justin Seager is joining the York City Police Department to continue his lifelong mission to serve, and he is committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity, professionalism, and compassion as he works to make the York community a safer, stronger place for all. He was born and raised in York and is a graduate of West York Area High School. Justin currently attends University of Phoenix to further his education. He served 8 years in the US Navy, as a correctional officer at York County prison for 4 years, and as a security officer for 4 years.
James Smith is grateful for the opportunity to serve the York community. He grew up in Maryland, began his law enforcement career with the Myrtle Beach police department in 2016, and ultimately rose to the rank of Corporal in the Street Crimes/Narcotics Unit. James was also sworn in as an FBI Task Force Officer and spent 8 years as a SWAT entry team operator.
