Street Closings & Traffic Advisories – September 19th

On Saturday, September 19, 2020, The YMCA will be hosting their annual Kids Triathlon.   The event runs from 8:30 a.m. until approximately 1:00 p.m.   The triathlon will center around Kiwanis Lake and Noonan Park.   As a result, several streets around the event will be closed to vehicular traffic  during that time frame.  The major streets which will be closed are Pennsylvania Ave. at Willis Run Rd. (for southbound traffic), Pennsylvania Ave. at Noonan Rd. (for northbound traffic), Parkway Blvd. between Pacific Ave. and Newberry St., Wood St. between Atlantic Ave. and Penna Ave., and Madison Ave. at Penn St. Motorists are encouraged to exercise patience and use extra caution due to the  large number of participants attending this event.

Also, on Saturday, September 19th, there will be a 5k foot race beginning at 10:00 a.m.  This race will leave the Gold Star Memorial at the Hoffman Complex and travel north on Vander Ave., and then east on Boundary Ave.  Both Vander Ave. (northbound) and Boundary Ave. (eastbound), will be closed for a short time until the race has passed through the City and into Spring Garden Township. Again, patience and extra caution is advised to motorists during their travels.

  • As part of this event, there will be a “Ruck Sack Hike” which also leaves the Gold Star Memorial at 8:30 a.m., extending to the Rail Trail.  The participants of this event will be walking on the sidewalks through the City of York, to the Rail Trail, turn around and return to the Gold Star Memorial.  There will be a contingent of hikers who will cross at the intersections, but otherwise should not be a traffic hazard.
