In an effort to protect the wellbeing of our local fauna, the City of York has installed temporary fencing amongst the trees at Kiwanis Lake to close off areas of the rookery during nesting season for the Egrets and Black Crowned Herons.
The fences are designed to keep the birds protected during this time. During the duration of this temporary fencing, no mowing and/or trimming will be performed by city staff in those areas to reduce any additional stress on the birds. Allowing the grass to grow will also provide shelter to the fledglings when they fall out of the nests.
