York City Wastewater System Sale Receives Recommended Approval

York City Mayor Michael Helfrich today issued the following statement regarding the decision by the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission’s Administrative Law Judge, recommending approval of the proposed $235 million sale of the York City Wastewater System to Pennsylvania-American Water Company:

“We are pleased that the PUC’s Administrative Law Judge has recommended approval of our proposed sale of the city wastewater system to Pennsylvania-American Water Company, and we remain hopeful that the PUC will concur with that recommendation and provide final approval later this spring. The judge’s recommendation brings us one step closer to finalizing this critically important transaction for the benefit of the entire York community. With Pennsylvania-American Water as a long-term partner, we will be able to pay off the city’s long-standing debts, keep taxes and rates stable for residents and businesses and invest in our future. We look forward to the PUC’s decision so that, together, we can build a stronger and more economically vibrant York for generations to come.”
