The York City Parks & Recreation Bureau invites residents and visitors to attend the 27th Annual William Shaffer Trout Fishing Derby. The Fishing Derby will be held at Kiwanis Lake, 300 Parkway Boulevard on Saturday, April 4, 2026, from 8:00 am to Noon, rain or shine.
The Derby is for children ages 15 and under. All children should be accompanied by an adult.
The Derby is a fun, free family event. Come early to find your spot around the lake, which will be stocked with trout. Snacks and drinks will be provided while supplies last, and trophies will be awarded for largest fish caught.
William Shaffer was a private citizen from York County who wanted to teach City youth a recreational hobby that they could carry throughout their lifetime. His efforts evolved into the current annual Trout Fishing Derby.
