On Friday, December 26, 2025, at 3:43 am, the City of York Department of Fire/Rescue Services was dispatched to the 900 block of Edison St for a residential structure fire. Shortly after dispatch, the call was upgraded to include entrapment. The first engine arrived on scene within three minutes to find flames visible on the first floor of a single-family home and requested a working fire assignment. Additional units arrived and started aggressively searching for the trapped residents. York City firefighters found and removed two residents from the home in cardiac arrest and provided initial treatment before transferring care to UPMC Community LifeTeam EMS. EMS providers were able to achieve a return of spontaneous circulation on both patients before transporting them to WellSpan York Hospital for further treatment.
A 2nd alarm was requested with the multiple rescues in progress before the incident was scaled back. Units operated for approximately three hours before clearing the scene.
Damage is estimated to be approximately $50,000. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
The City of York Department of Fire/Rescue Services would like to thank Community LifeTeam EMS and our mutual aid partners, as well as the various fire police agencies and City of York departments for their assistance with this event.
The City of York Department of Fire/Rescue Services also wishes to remind residents to check their smoke detectors and to close their bedroom doors before going to sleep.
