Department of Economic & Community Development Director Nona Watson to Leave Post on April 18

Mayor Michael R. Helfrich congratulates Department of Economic & Community Development (DECD) Director Nona Watson on an exciting new opportunity to advance her career. Mayor Helfrich has accepted the resignation of Ms. Watson and her last day with the City of York will be April 18, 2025.

“It is with a mix of emotions that I announce my decision to resign from my role as Director of Economic and Community Development with the City of York,” Director Watson said in a statement to York City elected officials. “This has been a deeply thoughtful and challenging decision, as serving in this role has been one of the most rewarding and meaningful chapters of my career. Parting ways with such an exceptional team and the vibrant City of York is truly bittersweet. Yet, I move forward with immense gratitude, pride, and a wealth of invaluable memories and lessons as I embark on this new career opportunity. I want to express my heartfelt thanks for your trust, collaboration, and unwavering support over the years. It has been an absolute honor to contribute to the growth and development of our community alongside such committed and passionate individuals.”

Mayor Michael Helfrich said, “It is with deep regret that I accept Nona’s resignation. Under her leadership, the DECD has developed and implemented innovative plans to improve the services which the people of York rely on. While we will miss her contributions, we fully support her decision to prioritize her career. I want to thank Nona for her years of service to the City of York and wish her the best in the future.”
