With Juneteenth just around the corner, the City of York announces the second annual “Juneteenth Family Cookout” at Penn Park on Saturday, June 15, 2024, 1:00pm to 5:00 pm. Families are invited to bring their grills and favorite cookout food along with lawn chairs and yard tents.
Register your family at ngaines@rosesymca.org. There is no cost to join what is meant to be a large community cookout. Vendors will be there too, including Kids Fun Zone, black-owned businesses, games and entertainment. Vendors can register their space at lthompson@yorkcity.org.
Juneteenth was declared a federal holiday in order to remember and celebrate the emancipation of American slaves. The date of June 19, 1865 – when the Union Army reached Texas and announced the freedom of slaves there – is the basis of June 19th date of Juneteenth.
WellSpan, Highmark Wholecare, YMCA, and NAACP York Branch are sponsors of “Juneteenth Family Cookout.”
