Long Term Construction Project Advisory

Mayor Michael Helfrich and the City of York Department of Public Works today wish to notify residents, property owners, business owners and commuters of a significant and continuous construction project taking place on George Street throughout most of the City of York.

From May 2nd, 2019 until an anticipated completion date of December 31st, 2019 the York Water Company will be undertaking a significant water main replacement project along the George Street corridor from Rathton Road to Arch Street. Construction will occur on both the east and west sides of the street.

Residents and property owners on George Street should expect to receive notices from the York Water Company over the next several months as work begins on their block.

The tentative end date of the total construction project is December 31st, 2019. However, construction will only occur in front of each property for a few days.

Residents and motorists should anticipate periods of overnight construction, lane closures, and traffic control measures.

Please keep in mind this type of construction project happens once every 80 to 100 years.

Questions and concerns related to this project should be directed to The York Water Company.

From the York Water Company

“Over the next few months, our construction crews from Kinsley Construction will saw cut the pavement, dig a trench, install the pipe, backfill the trench, and install temporary pavement.

Once the main has been installed and tested, our contractor will then relay all service lines in the project area. Once we’ve installed all of the pipe, services, and completed all associated tie-ins to the existing mains, the street will receive a final paving rehabilitation.”
