Tomi Uwazota Appointed New Medical Director at The City of York’s Bureau of Health

The City of York, Pennsylvania is pleased to announce its continued partnership with WellSpan Health in improving the health, safety, and economic development outcomes of the York community. As part of their partnership with the City of York, WellSpan donates the salary of the City’s Bureau of Health Medical Director.

Dr. Oluwatomi “Tomi” Uwazota became the new Medical Director of York’s Health Bureau on January 3, 2023. She takes over this role from Dr. Matthew Howie, who served as Medical Director for the past seven years and who will continue to support the Health Bureau’s work in other capacities.

“I look forward to this opportunity to support the City of York and to be a trusted resource, always striving to improve the health of the community leaning on my background in medicine,” said Dr. Uwazota.

Dr. Uwazota is a highly qualified and dedicated physician. She possesses a Doctorate of Medicine from Howard University, a Master’s in public health from Johns Hopkins University, and numerous health certificates. Her most recent work experience includes being a primary care physician at Family First Health and a hospitalist at WellSpan York Hospital. She is an active volunteer in the York community, including as an organizer of the training of community health workers to reach vulnerable populations in York City. She has also been active in the field of global health as well as volunteered with overseas missions in Ethiopia and Nigeria.
