Mayor Michael Helfrich and other representatives from the City of York will join with Ciocca Subaru of York and their Subaru Ambassadors on Tuesday, May 20 at 11:45 am to spotlight the community garden in Yorktown Park. The location for the press conference is the Park itself, 1059 Kelly Drive.
This is the third year in a row that Ciocca Subaru of York volunteers have planted vegetables, herbs, and flowers in the community garden’s ten boxes. There will be tomatoes, zucchini, cucumbers, yellow squash, sweet peppers, jalapeños, chives, cilantro, parsley, and basil. Subaru volunteers will begin planting this year’s garden during the hour before the press conference.
The plants are donated from Millers Plant Farm. Also, Ciocca Subaru of York purchased 2 picnic tables that will be assembled during the planting event and placed under the newly constructed pavilion in Yorktown Park. The tables will provide a space for the community to come together to cookout or just to relax while enjoying what the park has to offer.
The idea behind a community garden is to generate community neighbors around Yorktown Park who will take part in caring for the vegetables throughout the summer so that they can enjoy harvesting them and eating them.
