Early Collection Start Due to Extreme Heat

Collections to begin 1 hour early at 5:00 a.m. due to forecasted extreme heat from Tuesday, June 30th through Friday, July 3rd.

The City of York is advising residents that, due to forecasted extreme heat, curbside refuse and recycling collections by ESC Waste Service may begin one hour earlier at 5:00 a.m. from Tuesday, June 30th through Friday, July 3rd. With temperatures expected to reach the 90s, this temporary schedule adjustment is intended to help protect sanitation workers from prolonged exposure to dangerous heat conditions. Continuous physical labor, including walking, lifting, and bending in extreme temperatures, significantly increases the risk of heat-related illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

To ensure collection, residents are asked to:

  • Place all refuse and recycling at the curb after 5:00 p.m. the evening before their scheduled collection day.
  • Have all materials at the curb no later than 5:00 a.m. on the day of collection.

Please note that ESC Waste Service will not return to collect items placed at the curb after 5:00 a.m.

The City of York appreciates the community’s cooperation as we take steps to protect the health and safety of the dedicated sanitation workers who provide this essential service. Thank you for your understanding and support.
