Extreme Heat Affects Start Time for Thursday, July 27 & Friday, July 28 in York City

Dangerously high temperatures into the 90’s are forecasted for our area late this week. All collections by Republic Services on Thursday, 7/27 and Friday, 7/28 will begin one hour earlier at 5 a.m. in York City.

Physical labor during extreme heat poses increased risk to outdoor workers who must protect themselves against sun and heat exposure. Hot temperatures and high humidity combined often result in heat-related illness like heat exhaustion or heat stroke.

Prepare ahead. During summer’s extreme heat, it is possible that the City may periodically approve days/weeks of collections to begin at 5 a.m. For this reason, it is recommended during extreme heat to place items out for collection after 5 p.m. the evening prior to normal collection. When a 5 a.m. start time is approved for specific dates, the crews will not return for items placed out after 5 a.m.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
