York City Hall Goes Purple for International Overdose Awareness Day

The City of York joins others around the world today in observing International Overdose Awareness Day by coming together to remember loved ones lost to an overdose. The Bureau of Health is remembering those we’ve lost in 2022 by displaying 73 purple flags out front of City Hall. According to York County Coroner, Pamela Gay, YTD statistics for 2022 for York County as of 8/30/2022, 73 confirmed accidental drug/alcohol-related deaths.

About International Overdose Awareness Day

International Overdose Awareness Day (IOAD), held each year on August 31st, is the world’s largest annual campaign to end overdose. This is a day for us to remember, without stigma, those who have died from drug overdose and acknowledge the grief of the family and friends left behind. We encourage you to use the occasion of IOAD to raise awareness and help spread the hope of recovery and ending overdose.
