Heat Affects Collection Start Time In York City

Collections to Begin 1 Hour Early At 5AM Monday 8/9 - Friday 8/13/21

Physical labor during extreme heat poses increased risk to outdoor workers who must protect themselves against sun and heat exposure. Hot temperatures and high humidity combined often result in heat-related illness like heat exhaustion or heat stroke.

Due to dangerously high temperatures and humidity forecasted for our area during the week of August 9th through Friday, August 13th, all collections by Republic Services for that week will begin one hour earlier at 5 a.m. in York City.

Keep in mind that during summer’s extreme heat, it is possible that the City may periodically approve days/weeks of collections to begin at 5 a.m. For this reason, it is recommended during extreme heat to place items out for collection after 5 p.m. the evening prior to normal collection. When a 5 a.m. start time is approved for specific dates, the crews will not return for items placed out after 5 a.m.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
