American Water Co. has begun line reconstruction along sections of Prospect St to correct dips and depressions in the sanitary and storm lines. The current lines are not allowing proper drainage to the mainlines at Poor House Run.

Mayor Michael Helfrich announces the retirement of Chief William Sleeger Jr. after 33 years of service with the City of York Department of Fire/Rescue Services, effective January 18, 2026. “I thank Chief Sleeger and his family for the decades given to serve and protect our residents, our property, and the City of York,” said Mayor Helfrich. “A job well done.”

On Friday, December 26, 2025, at 3:43 am, the City of York Department of Fire/Rescue Services was dispatched to the 900 block of Edison St for a residential structure fire.

Ring in the New Year in the heart of downtown at the White Rose Drop in Continental Square.

Christmas tree collections by York City staff will take place city-wide from Monday, January 5th through Friday, January 16th.

Due to the Christmas Day holiday on Thursday, December 25th and the New Year’s Day holiday on Thursday, January 1st, ALL regular curbside (trash) collections will be delayed one (1) day following the holidays, affecting Thursday and Friday collections for both weeks.

All residents in the city must have their leaves raked out to the curb by 7:00 A.M. on Monday, December 15, 2025 for final collection.

The City of York will shine brighter than ever this holiday season as Light Up York, presented by WellSpan Health, returns to Continental Square for a festive community celebration featuring cultural traditions, live entertainment, and local culinary favorites on December 5, 2025 from 5 to 8 PM.

The York City Police Department will swear in 5 new police officers on Monday, December 1 at 1:00 pm in Council Chambers at City Hall, 101 S. George St. The new officers will be joined with friends and family. Brief biographies follow.
