On Friday July 12, 2024, at 6:37 pm, the City of York Department of Fire/Rescue Services was dispatched to 417 S. Albemarle St. for a structure fire. Upon arrival there was heavy fire showing from the first and second floors already through the roof on the Albemarle side extending well into the structure.

Residential Fair Parking Permits Available

The City of York provides parking permits for residents that live on designated blocks/streets during the York Fair, which runs from July 19th to July 28th, 2024.

Sh Collections Begin One Hour Early at 5 Am in York City Due to Continued Extreme Heat & Humidity the Remainder of July

Summer’s heat and humidity continue with July predominately forecasted to be in the 90’s. Trash collections will begin at 5 am for the remainder of July 2024.

PUBLIC INVITED TO OPEN HOUSE ON CITY OF YORK’S COMPREHESIVE PLAN

The City of York will be holding an Open House related to the City’s Comprehensive Plan on Tuesday, July 9th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at City Hall, 101 S George St. All are encouraged to attend.

PHILADELPHIA STREET CLOSURE JULY 12th-14th

Due to construction at the Appell Center, West Philadelphia Street from North George Street to North Beaver Street is scheduled to be closed the weekend of Friday July 12 to Sunday July 14, 2024.

Mayor Availability Tomorrow to Discuss the U.S. Conference of Mayors and Recognition of York City

Mayor Michael Helfrich will be available to answer questions about his experience at the U.S. Conference of Mayors annual meeting that took place from June 20-23 in Kansas City, Missouri.

Market St Garage Work During the Week of June 24-28

The City of York’s garage on Market St will be having the elevator shaft windows re-sealed beginning on Monday, June 24. The drive lane from Duke St to the garage as well as the sidewalk will be closed while work continues through Friday, June 28. The Market St and Clarke Alley entrances will remain open. A lift to the 11th floor is likely to obstruct the crosswalk. Cones and arrows will redirect people to an alternate walking area.

City of York Hosts Narcan & Sexual Wellness Resource Distribution on Tuesday, June 25 Th at York City Hall

The City of York Bureau of Health, York/Adams Drug and Alcohol Commission, and York Opioid Collaborative have been working together to distribute Narcan the 4th Tuesday of each month. On Tuesday, June 25, 2024, the monthly Narcan distribution event will continue to take place at City Hall (101 S. George St). Individuals can pick up Narcan (outside and in front of City Hall) and receive a brief training on how to recognize and respond to an opioid overdose. In addition, the event will also have resources about HIV and STDs in recognition of Pride Month and National HIV Testing Day on June 27, 2024. Refer to the Health Bureau’s Sexual Wellness Webpage for additional information.

The grueling heat wave continues into next week, including Monday, June 24th through Wednesday, June 26th. These specified days are forecasted with temperatures in the 90’s. Our dedicated trash collector may begin collections 1 hour early, at 5 a.m., to avoid an extra hour in the searing heat.

Coinciding with First Friday May, the City of York will be holding a ribbon cutting for Continental Square’s new landscaping. Gather on the southwest corner of the Square on May 3 at 8:00 pm. Newly installed landscape lighting will be lit for the first time.
