On Friday July 12, 2024, at 6:37 pm, the City of York Department of Fire/Rescue Services was dispatched to 417 S. Albemarle St. for a structure fire. Upon arrival there was heavy fire showing from the first and second floors already through the roof on the Albemarle side extending well into the structure.

The City of York’s garage on Market St will be having the elevator shaft windows re-sealed beginning on Monday, June 24. The drive lane from Duke St to the garage as well as the sidewalk will be closed while work continues through Friday, June 28. The Market St and Clarke Alley entrances will remain open.
A lift to the 11th floor is likely to obstruct the crosswalk. Cones and arrows will redirect people to an alternate walking area.
The City of York Bureau of Health, York/Adams Drug and Alcohol Commission, and York Opioid Collaborative have been working together to distribute Narcan the 4th Tuesday of each month. On Tuesday, June 25, 2024, the monthly Narcan distribution event will continue to take place at City Hall (101 S. George St). Individuals can pick up Narcan (outside and in front of City Hall) and receive a brief training on how to recognize and respond to an opioid overdose.
In addition, the event will also have resources about HIV and STDs in recognition of Pride Month and National HIV Testing Day on June 27, 2024. Refer to the Health Bureau’s Sexual Wellness Webpage for additional information.

The 38th Annual York Saint Patrick’s Day Parade will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2024. Please be advised this will impact parking along the parade route on Market Street.
Weather permitting, York City curbside customers may begin to place yard waste at their designated pick-up point for collection on their normal recycling day, beginning Monday, March 4th.

The City of York today announced that its Gamewell fire alarm system is being retired due to difficulty of replacing central system infrastructure at the Rex/Laurel fire stations and the ongoing exorbitant cost and maintenance of the system. City Ordinance Section 1501.04(15) still requires maintaining a fire alarm system through a third-party contractor.

Christmas tree collections by York City staff will take place city-wide from Tuesday, January 2nd through Friday, January 12th. Trees must be placed at the regular pick-up point by 6 a.m. on your designated collection days.

On Wednesday, November 8, a new four-way stop will go into effect at the intersection of Boundary Avenue and Spangler Lane/Edgar Street. The additional stop signs will improve safety for pedestrians walking to and from Hannah Penn Middle School or Memorial Park. Biker safety will also be improved along the new bike path extension of the Broad Street Greenway, an asphalt and concrete path which adjoins Hannah Penn.

The overdose-reversing drug Naloxone saves lives, but only if it’s readily available when an overdose occurs. The City of York Bureau of Health, York/Adams Drug and Alcohol Commission, and York Opioid Collaborative continue to distribute Naloxone. Individuals can pick up Narcan and receive brief training on how to recognize and respond to an opioid overdose. The monthly distribution events in November and December 2023 will be cancelled.
